Record profits and innovative work practices were not enough to win the Port of Tauranga the Port Operator Award at the 2012 Lloyd's List Global Awards ceremony held in London yesterday.

The winner was APM Terminals, a multinational company which has started working in Peru, Georgia, Sweden and Vietnam in the past 12 months.

The Port of Tauranga was one of seven finalists for the award and was noted by Lloyd's List as a New Zealand and international success story.

"Innovative work practices and continued investment underpin its market-leading productivity," the shipping industry publication said.
