Arsonist sets car alight

Lynda Feringa

An arsonist set a car alight in a quiet Tauranga suburb last night.

Tauranga police confirmed they were investigating the "suspicious" car fire in Hairini.

Senior Sergeant Mark Holmes said the fire was suspicious and police believed it to be arson.

The car was parked on Harrisfield Rd when it caught alight about 11.50pm yesterday.

Mr Holmes said the fire was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Branch.

A Greerton fire fighter confirmed they attended the fire. He would not comment more as it was under investigation by police.

Police enquiries are continuing.
