Armistice recalled on Anzac Green
War veterans, their families and members of the public gathered at the cenotaph on Anzac Green on Sunday morning and were brought to attention by parade commander Ross Wardlaw for the sounding of Te Awamutu fire siren at exactly 11am to mark the beginning of the Armistice Day service.
Following God of Nations, lead by Tony Bramsen, a lone wreath was laid by RSA veterans.
A brief benediction and dedication was followed by the reading of the poem In Flanders Fields, written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae and recited by Syd Hall.
The RSA Ode followed the playing of The Last Post by David Haberfield, and was followed by Reveille.
The service concluded with God Save The Queen before veterans and guests made their way to the RSA clubrooms for the War Veterans' Luncheon.
