Armed police target Mount homes in hunt for man

The Tauranga police armed offenders squad descended on two homes in residential Mount Maunganui as they searched for a wanted man.

About 10 squad members and a police dog were seen at a property on Riverton Rd about 1pm yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders said the squad was called to look for a man wanted on an arrest warrant and was believed to be armed.

Mr Saunders said police had reason to believe the man was at one of the two homes on the property but he was not there.

Riverton Rd residents watched as squad members surrounded the house and peered over fences.

Police called people out from inside the two homes and questioned them.
