Album review: A Symphony of British Music

Relive the magic and madness of the Olympic ceremonies on this album and its companion, Isles of Wonder: Music For the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The highlight of the closing ceremony for many was Elbow's two-song set with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Urban Voices Collective. Their anthems, Open Arms and One Day Like This (which were hits at their New Zealand gig this year), seemed made for the occasion.

Ed Sheeran's take on Wish You Were Here and, bizarrely, Russel Brand's cover of I Am The Walrus are further highlights.

Pop and nostalgia fans can revel in the reunited Spice Girls' medley and Take That's Rule The World, while classic rockers will appreciated songs from Queen, David Bowie and The Who, who are covered by Kaiser Chiefs but also do three of their own tracks, including the wonderful Baba O'Riley.
