Student rescued from surf near Leisure Island
A student has been rescued from the surf near Leisure Island on Mt Maunganui Main Beach this morning.
Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Mark Pakes said the young woman was helped by surfers until surf lifesavers arrived to bring her to shore.
Mr Pakes said police were still trying to establish how the girl ended up in the water.
