Man still faces attempted murder charges

A Bayfair man facing attempted murder charges had two other charges withdrawn by police in the Tauranga District Court.

Steven Dennis Poole, 44, was not brought over from Waikeria Prison to appear yesterday.

He was to face aggravated burglary and possession of LSD charges but they were withdrawn in court yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the withdrawals were administrative as they doubled up on more recently laid charges.

Mr Turner said Poole was still facing charges for a home invasion and two attempted murders following separate shooting incidents.

The attempted murder charges relate to incidents in Hamilton and Tauranga in May and July, involving a man and a woman whose identities have been suppressed due to police safety concerns.

Shots were fired into a Tauranga house and a man inside suffered head injuries.

Poole was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 14.
