Police have arrested three teens in relation to the hijacking of a car near Te Puke.

A man picked up three people from a property in Tauranga and gave them a ride to Rangiuru Rd in Paengaroa where they attacked him and stole his car about 12.15am on Friday.

Te Puke Senior Sergeant Deirdre Lack said police found the stolen car, a grey Ford Mondeo, late on Friday night.

"We were alerted to the car by a member of the community. We'd spoken to a few members of the community about it."

Ms Lack said the offenders were aged 15, 16 and 17.

The young man and two young women were charged and would be dealt with by Youth Aid, she said.
