Taser training will begin this month for more than 100 Western Bay police staff, with 70 of the devices set to arrive in the Bay of Plenty.

The Tasers will be allocated across the district's four policing areas - Western Bay of Plenty, Eastern Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo - with police remaining tight-lipped about how many will be held at the six stations across the Western Bay.

District operations manager Inspector Scott Fraser said the police commissioner would announce the "go live" date for Taser use  in the near future.

Meanwhile, over three months from March 30, Western Bay police will undergo a full day of intensive theoretical and practical training in Rotorua.
