Taupo Police were today planning
to speak to the Tauranga man
shot by a hunter in   Lake Taupo
Forest last week.

Nigel Ross, 69, is recovering in
Waikato Hospital's high depend
ency unit from a gunshot wound
to the chest. He was in a stable
condition today.

He was shot while leaving the
forest, 25km southeast of Taupo,
about 10.20pm last Wednesday.

Detective Sergeant Tony
Manunui of Taupo Police said staff
had had brief conversations with
members of the Ross family but
were yet to interview Mr Ross.

The hunter who allegedly shot
him was interviewed last week.

Mr Manunui said he'd had a
brief phone conversation with Mr
Ross' hunting companion, known
as Winston, but he too was yet to
