Pair sentenced after taking trip in stolen car

Two Ngongotaha men who broke into a workshop, stole a  car and drove to Mount Maunganui where they fled after severely damaging the vehicle and were both caught drink driving have been sentenced to community work and 12 months' supervision.

Wade Edward Reti, 18, and Jerry Te Pania, 19, who earlier pleaded guilty to one charge each of burglary, unlawfully taking a vehicle and driving with an excess breath alcohol (under 20) were sentenced in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

Reti, who also admitted charges of careless driving, possession of cannabis and cultivating cannabis was sentenced to 250 hours' community work and 12 months' supervision. He was banned from driving for six months.
