Bay parents back education trial

Tauranga parents have come out in support of New Zealand's biggest teachers union with  more than 300 people signing a petition calling for national standards to be trialled.

A New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI) roadshow, which is visiting schools and communities throughout the country  with its petition asking for a trial, stopped in Tauranga yesterday to discuss the issue with principals, staff and board members.

National Standards school bus tour co-ordinator Lyndy McIntyre said Tauranga had produced some of the best turnouts, with the largest contingent of parents at  Arataki and Merivale Schools.

NZEI officials visited six schools in the Western Bay of Plenty.
